Tell us a little about your yourself, like what you study and why you love it or what you have been doing since graduating…

I studied a Bachelor of Commerce at UNSW and graduated in 2020. Since graduating, I joined the Fujitsu Graduate Program due to my passion for technology and innovation.

After a year of working with a number of experienced senior managers and leaders at Fujitsu, I landed my current role as a Project Portfolio Analyst at Hummingbird Solutions, a unique IT services company with a mission to transform businesses from Good to Great. I’m so grateful to be working with a team of collaborative, experienced professionals and making a real impact across the government and private sector!

Who did you undertake your Co-NNECTIONS internship with? Tell us a bit about the experience, and what you enjoyed most?

I undertook my Co-NNECTIONS internship at the National Disability Insurance Agency, a government agency with the aim to support a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers.

A typical day during my internship, consisted of speaking to the Business Services Officer (my mentor) on high priority tasks and a strategy to complete these tasks. I worked independently on tasks, from HR administration to organisation mapping and career development initiatives. I enjoyed collaborating with professionals and leaders across the business to create a Career Development Guide for all employees in the Actuarial Division.

What was it like to intern working from home? What advice do you have for any students to get the most out of the experience done this way?

Though working from home limits your ability to physically build connections with people, it is a true reflection of our new way of working in a post-covid world. A huge positive I found when working from home is I did not have to spend hours commuting to work, resulting in more “me time”.

My advice to students to get the most out of the experience of working from home is to reach out to your co-workers online and schedule an informal introduction session. People are always open to meeting new graduates and giving advice if you need it!

How has doing this internship, and being part of Co-NNECTIONS more broadly, helped you in your career and your development?

Doing this internship and being part of Co-NNECTIONS served as a great foundation to understanding myself and what I want out of a career. It has greatly increased my confidence and ability to say ‘yes’ to every opportunity. I can confidently say that I know what it is like to work in a dynamic, complex environment. I am excited to continue to develop myself on a personal and professional level. The learning possibilities are endless!
